The Alaskan Inside Passage is the premiere destination for those who enjoy idyllic scenery and nonstop fun. The Inside Passage can be reached through a collection of waterways, byways, skyways and highways, every one an adventure in and of itself. The Northern and Southern tips of the Passage are accessible by highway, for those of you traveling by automobile.
The area is imbued with water, rainforests, glaciers and wildlife. It is one of the most visited regions of the state. The Tongass National Forest offers outstanding recreation opportunities and abundant Wildlife Viewing. Kayakers enjoy the Inside Passage for its inlets, islands and wildlife. Explore world-class caves or enjoy salt-water fjords and unending waterways by canoe or kayak. Get the same experience in comfort aboard a sail boat, charter boat or ferry. You can watch bears, eagles, whales and countless other creatures in their natural setting. Visit glaciers by land or by sea and fish both fresh or salt water species.
Fishing in Alaska is an incredible experience. You'll find that an abundance of salmon runs along the coastline, as well as some huge halibut. The King salmon can be as large as sixty pounds plus. Don't forget the dolly steel-head and grayling that can be found in many inland streams. You'll be fishing in some of the most incredible scenery in the world. Located here are the summer feeding waters of the orca and humpback whales. Raptor fans will want to view the thousands of eagles that congregate each fall to feast on late-run chum salmon along the Chilkat River, at the northern end of the region. |
